Third-party cover is compulsory under the Motor Vehicles Act, but it pays only for damage you cause to others. A comprehensive policy adds cover for your own vehicle against accidents, theft, fire and flood, which is what most owners actually need.
Two quotes that look similar can differ a great deal in what they pay. The insured declared value (IDV), the deductible, and add-ons such as zero depreciation, engine protection and return to invoice decide how much you receive after a claim. A low premium usually means a low IDV or a missing add-on.
Your no-claim bonus can reach 50 percent off the own-damage premium after five claim-free years, and it belongs to you, not the car. It transfers to your next vehicle if you ask for it at sale.

Straight answers to what people in Raipur ask us most.
There is no single best one. Insurers differ in premium, cashless garage network in Raipur and how smoothly they settle claims. We compare HDFC Ergo, ICICI Lombard, Tata AIG, Go Digit, IFFCO Tokio and Oriental for your specific car and pick on value, not just price.
It is the legal minimum, but it pays nothing towards your own car. If the vehicle is worth more than a small amount, comprehensive cover is almost always the better buy.
Insured Declared Value is roughly the current market value of the vehicle, and it is the maximum the insurer pays if the car is stolen or written off. Lowering the IDV reduces the premium but also reduces what you receive in a total loss.
Yes. The no-claim bonus belongs to the policyholder. Ask the insurer for an NCB certificate or retention letter when you sell, and it can be applied to your next vehicle's policy.
Do not drive the vehicle until it is insured, since driving without third-party cover is an offence. Most insurers will renew an expired policy after an inspection, and the no-claim bonus is usually kept if renewal happens within 90 days of expiry.
Free, nothing to sign, and nothing recommended on the first call. Bring whatever paperwork you have; if you have none, come anyway.
