Term Insurance from India
for NRIs
Indian term plans are often far cheaper than equivalent cover in the Gulf or the West. Eligibility depends on where you live, and the medicals can usually be done abroad.

Indian insurers sell term cover to NRIs, often at a fraction of the premium for similar cover abroad. Your country of residence decides eligibility, and full disclosure decides whether the claim is paid.
Who is eligible
Most Indian life insurers accept NRIs living in the Gulf, the UK, Singapore and many other countries. Rules differ by insurer and by country, and some countries are restricted or need extra underwriting. We check your country with each insurer before you apply.
Medicals and documents
- Passport and visa or residence permit, and proof of overseas address.
- Income proof: salary certificate or slips and bank statements, or tax returns.
- Medical tests at an insurer-approved centre abroad, a video medical, or tests during a visit to India, depending on the insurer and the cover amount.
Paying the premium
Premiums can usually be paid from an NRE or NRO account, and some insurers accept international payments. Since 22 September 2025, individual life insurance premiums carry no GST.
How much cover, and for how long
Size the cover on what your family would need: income replaced until children are independent, loans in India and abroad cleared, and goals funded. The same method applies as for a resident; see how much term cover you need.
Disclosure and claims
Declare every health condition, your occupation and your country of residence accurately. If you move country later, inform the insurer. Claims are paid to the nominee, who can be in India or abroad, and we help the family with the paperwork.
